Tale Spinners (Story Writing)

Unleash your inner author! ✍️ Stories must be under 1000 words based on the topics provided below for your age group:

🔹 Elementary School : Discover a secret passage in your school – where does it lead, and what do you find on the other side? 🕵️‍♀️🚪
🔹 Middle School : Meet a ghost 👻 – a former student – who reveals a mysterious secret from the school's past!
🔹 High School : Reimagine a classic fairy tale 🧚‍♀️ with a modern twist. 

RULES

  1. By submitting to the Contest, the entrant agrees to abide by all Contest rules.

  2. All entries must be original works by the entrant, in English. Plagiarism, which includes the use of third-party story, characters or another person’s universe, without written permission, will result in disqualification. Excessive violence determined by the judges, will result in disqualification. Entries may not have been previously published in professional media.

  3. Author’s names are excluded to facilitate anonymous judging.

  4. All entries are final. No revisions are accepted.

  5. The decisions of the judges are final and binding.

  6. Submissions will be evaluated using the following criteria:

    • Stories must be under 1000 words

    • Addresses theme — The piece reflects the stated theme of the contest. Uses specific and relevant detail to engage the reader. The author conveys ideas clearly.

    • Plot structure — Adequate information is provided to understand the story. Conflict emerges early and builds toward resolution. The sequence of events, dialog, and emotional movements are well crafted.

    • Character development and dialog — The reader can relate to the characters. Actions and interactions are consistent and well-motivated.

    • Language Use — The piece uses writing that reveals purpose through description, word choice, and variety of sentence structures.

    • Organization & Structure — The piece is organized and well-structured. Author demonstrates command of grammar, spelling and mechanics.

  7. First and second winner will be selected from each category.

 Creative Inklings (Art & Craft)

Bring your ideas to life through colors, shapes, and textures! 🎨🖌️

🔸 Elementary School : Build your own vallam  (snake boat) from scrap materials – max 14 inches! 🚣‍♂️
🔸 Middle School : Make a bright and beautiful 10x12 poster with at least 4 photos of your Kerala summer vacation! 🌴📷
🔸 High School : Design an 8x10 Onam-themed photo booth backdrop using your best art supplies! 🌼📸

RULES

  1. By submitting to the Contest, the entrant agrees to abide by all Contest rules.

  2. All entries must be original works by the entrant. Artwork can be realistic or abstract..

  3. For Craft,

    • Must be original work of art.

    • Use scrap and recyclable materials available at home.

    • Should not exceed size of 14 inches.

  4. For Poster,

    • Must be original work of art.​

    • The artwork should be submitted on a poster of size 10x12

    • Containing a minimum of 4 photos relevant to the artist.

    • A one liner describing the photo must be provided.

    • Decorate the poster using pastels, oil pastels, colored pencils, markers, etc.

  5. For Onam Backdrop, students are encouraged to use bold colors and strong lines. ​

    • Must be original work of art.​

    • The artwork should be submitted on an A4 size sheet

    • Paint (watercolor, tempera, poster, acrylic, etc.)

    • Drawings (pencil, charcoal, colored chalk, pastels, oil pastels, colored pencils, markers, etc.

  6. Artists names are excluded to facilitate anonymous judging.

  7. Each entrant may submit only one artwork.

  8. Entries will be judged by qualified individuals. The decisions of the judges are entirely their own and are final and binding.

  9. Submissions will be evaluated using the following criteria:

    • Interpretation of the theme

    • Aesthetics

    • Originality

    • Craftmanship

  10. One winner will be selected from each category.
